This photo has a great usage of depth of field, and lighting. You can see the depth of field because everything that is close to the eye is in focus and everything in the background is blurry. (This also shows you my exact point of view, how I was seeing the hospital that day. )* You almost feel as if you are the one holding the camera. The leading lines make it pleasing to the eye, and the contrast of colors are what make it pop. |

I have changed as a photographer a lot, I barely knew how to use my camera my first day of class! I have learned how to use my shutter speed, aperture, depth of field, and many more techniques. I catch myself looking at facebook pictures posted and critiquing them as you do our work. I feel that when I take a picture now, the chances of it coming out nicely have increased by at least eighty percent. I am more confident holding my camera, and a ton more comfortable using the online editing websites. It is amazing what you can do with a simple picture to make it look cooler!
Final Project; Artist's Statement
The concepts that are displayed in this final project include surrealism, technique, and editing. These pictures were taken while my girlfriend was in the hospital so they have a lot of emotion, and capture the stress in the pictures. Half are more serious and more focused on technique, rule of thirds, capturing the right lighting, making sure the image is sharpened or blurred. The other half were more focused on toying with reality and editing to see what could be made. This set of photos has a lot of meaning especially because it truly captures how it felt to wait, and not being sure what was going to happen. The emotion is captured the best in the dramatic black and white photos, because you can truly feel the intensity.
The inspiration for this final project comes from a photographer by the name of Victor Eredel, who combines what is real and what is not and it becomes an amazing picture. His photos are absolutely breathtaking as he uses amazing techniques such as using his depth of field, lighting, and editing. His photos are either super realistic and sharp, or combined with editing and photoshop to create an illusion. Some of my influences as well include the setting of being at the hospital and using the editing tool and creating these pictures took a lot off my mind and the stress and anxiety helped to create some of the more dramatic pictures.
The idea of intensity and hard work were communicated in the first photo set. It contains sharp images that use depth of field, and contrast in their favor. There was also a black and white effect added to a couple to create the intensity. The mixing of reality with fantasy takes place in my next two photo sets, there are added in cartoons, effects, and the contrast, hue, saturation, and more were changed to create the illusions. You can find two different themes when looking at the illusions, and that was happy vs. unhappy. The brighter colors, the bubbles, and the the bright pink all seemed to make life a bit happier when looking at, while when looking at the darker black and white pictures they seem to make the world a bit sadder.

This photo changed the color saturation, turning the chairs pink to create a more cartoon yet real effect. There was a small Bitmoji added in to create the fantasy effect while still being a real photograph. |

This picture was playing with saturation and adding a pixel effect. It is interesting because although a photograph of real life, it looks computer generated. |

This photo was playing with saturation as well, and depth of field. The image was also sharpened a bit and the leading line is what draws the eye. |

This image was an effect called 'posterize' and created an unreal/cartoon effect. The word sick was added in for irony although it is unclear if that transferred. |

Still life
This was one of the best photos because it really captures the bottle as the subject. The angle that we are looking at it is also very interesting. |
This picture really shows the focus on the soap dispenser, but if I had taken out the red package in the background it would have come out a bit better. |
The slight shadows on the doll's face, and the depth of field really give this picture that special something. I changed my aperture on this picture. |
This photo is a bit confusing as it is a very nice picture, but the focus was on the background, making the subject a bit fuzzy! |
This picture really shows the paper as the subject. The shadows are in favor of it, and the background is not too messy. |
Capturing movement- favorite shots ( I NEED TO ADD NAMES)
This is a good photo because the movement of water is truly captured. Also the depth of field helps to make this a very good picture as well. |
This set of picture as well truly captures the movement of her hair, and the background does not take away from the pic. . |
This picture is of you, Prof. Levin, and 2 other students. This captures the idea that you are going to dive off the wall, which makes for an ideal illusion. |

Alexa Meade
(A DC native!)
This photograph never ceases to amaze me. the girl truly seems to be a painting!! this illusion is truly amazing to me. |
This photographer takes a whole new spin on photography, and art. She mixes photography with painting to create amazing delusions that make us think about what is reality and what is not. Her goal is to photograph a person but to make it seem like a painting, therefore surprising the person looking at the picture. This type of art really makes us think and is really important to the ever-changing dynamics of photography

For example, she did an amazing job of making the subject the main thing that you look at, and she did an amazing job of capturing the angles and making it look as tho it is a painting. sources: |

this one as well really is quite the illusion as you cant tel, and kinda seem to think the picture might a actually be 2D instead of 3D. |

Favorite portraits
I Like this picture I took of a stranger because of the angle, and in his expression while looking at me randomly after I asked to take his picture. |
This was by far my favorite picture because it is so in detail. and you can see so much emotion in his face. This is one of my best friends and it took while to find a good angle. |

This was one of my favorite pictures because the angle looking down is in favor to my face, and the lighting makes my skin almost glow, along with my eyes. |
I like this picture a lot as well because the background is so in detail, but so am I. I also love the natural lighting, and positioning of my body. |

When picturing people you really need to be aware of the details of how they look and the angle needs to be in their favor.
Try all different angles and expressions, subtle changes can make a huge difference and a different set of clothes can give you many options to pick from. You never know whats going to look best until you look at all the pictures.
Props can complement other visual elements or contrast them with elements to add a sense of irony, tension, or mystery.
Body language is extremely important, imagine looking at a picture of someone bored.
Depth of Field is important and you must choose what you want to be in focus and what you don't want to be in focus.
Deep d.o.f means everything is in focus
Shallow d.o.f. means that only a narrow band of the image is in focus.
Emotion is easy to capture if your model had a wide range of facial expressions.
The guesswork that goes into selfies often results in serendipitous photographic surprises.
Make sure your model is relaxed and comfortable with you.
Digital effects can be considered one pictures have been taken.
You can use a prop as a stand in for a model, which is less emotional but can sometimes have a bigger impact.

This first selfie shows a lot of emotion as I am frustrated that my dog wants to lick my face. |
This selfie shows how some shadows can make your face slightly less attractive |
This selfie shows how some angles can actually make you slightly more attractive than in real life. |
A Room With a View
A Room With a View
A couple of key points that I got from this chapter would be how you need to use riding in an airplane to your advantage. The beauty that we can capture with our phones sits directly outside of the airplanes window.
"don't they know theres a million dollar view at just a glance away" p.139
Influences are very important as well and you need to be sure that you aren't accidentally referencing something you don't mean to. Some people might see an airplane wing and think about the twilight zone and imagine the guy ripping off the wing.
Using color is always depending on the picture, sometimes the picture is expressed better in the nitty gritty black and white. Its a personal choice that supports the way that you want to tell the story.
Taking pictures from super high point of views can turn out amazing if you haver proper use of light, point of view, and composition.
Using our iPhone camera we can also create strange effects with rapidly moving objects, due to the rolling shutter.

This shows an example of our iPhone shutter making it seem like there are multiple propellers flying off of the plane. |
This picture shows how color was needed to make the picture pop. |
